The Music Review (Whyte’s Thoughts)

The Music Review (Whyte’s Thoughts)

This week’s Preview is a bit scanty because No major Album was released neither did any of the Underdogs surprise us. However, Here are the major attractions for last Week!

Jon Ogah Needs to Follow Up Uncle Suru

Fake BBnaija 2017 Housemate John Ogah released ‘Uncle Suru’ months ago. The song which featured the recurring duo of Simi and Adekunle Gold has received enormous feedback from Music Lovers. Uncle Suru talks about the lack of support and belief Nigerian parents/Uncles have towards music. His Uncle would have been happier if he studied medicine or anything but music but when he finally excels Uncle Suru celebrates with him. Jon Ogah needs to follow Uncle suru up before it cools down. What has kept Davido, Wizkid, Tekno, Mr Eazi and Olamide is because they have kept pulling back to back Hits.

This segment of The Review unearths the song/instrumental which an artiste sampled or Copied.
Sampling either a snippet,a skit , The piano or a line from from an old song is the new wave for the new generation artistes and producers. For the Uninitiated, Example of a Sampled bit is DJ Khaled’s wild thoughts which took standout strings from Juel Santana’s Maria Maria. So here is this week’s List

1. “One For Me” by Wizkid was sampled from SMV’s One For me. It is Ironic that the both songs had same titles probably because he acknowledges the fact that he is not the original curator. However , The song from the Sounds From The Other Side Album was well sampled with the Originals playing the back up, Smart huh!
2. “Go” By Tekno has the kick off verse of 50 cent’s In Da Club. Considering the title , it is not a bad Sample.

3. “Dont” By Odunsi ‘The Engine’ has the kick off verse from Kevin Little’s Tempted to touch. Don’t which is in the 4 track Combined EP with Nonso Amadi titled ‘WAR’ was perfectly sampled.

4. “Ghana Pepper” By Beetovin sampled from Mr Eazi’s Anointing. Let’s call this inspirational sampling as it must have been scored by Calabar based Artiste and Producer, BeetovinNackIt.

5. “The Box”By M.I was sampled From Tay’s The Box…Its quite complex to call this a sample neither can we call it a cover or refix but any other name that suffices. Mi’s The Box features Ckay and Pryse who stole the shine from M.I. Same Title and a similar but a twisted beat. well Sampled!

Is a Lagos based artiste and producer who does contemporary Dance-hall Music , You will need to listen to Minz’s songs to see why in the era Kritzbeat production We have an artiste like Minz struggling to break into the industry. So lesson to Our Artiste
Tay Iwar

Terna Iwar, Bantu

Terna Iwar, Bantu

Tay Iwar Raised in Lagos and Abuja, he began creating music at age fourteen. After Co-creating Bantu Collective in 2013, Tay released his debut compilation, ‘Passport’, in April 2014. Although it was underpromoted and performed poorly upon its release, the album became a sleeper hit and helped Tay garner commercial standing. Related to Rapper Sute Iwar who have worked with Tay on several musical project.

Odunsi (The Engine)

Odunsi (the Engine) is a 20-year-old artist and producer, born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. He launched his career in 2015 and released his debut EP Time of Our Lives (TOOL), which was produced, mix and mastered him, GMK and Osato This EP is a blend of EDM, R&B, Reggae, Soul music with African sounds to make the genre Afro Fusion. The EP features Ghanaian Afro EDM artiste Okuntakinte, Nigerian singer Dami Oniru and Nigerian artiste Black Magic.
He has also produced music for Ghanaian Afro-Jazz musician Adomaa, ‘Julor’-Cina Soul ft Manifest and Saint Kwam.
His single Situationship ft Aylø has also received a lot of attention and airplay. He is currently working on his next EP and will be dropping a few singles as the year progresses, which would catch the world’s attention. He currently released an EP with Nonso Amadi; another new act on the block.

Hit Song Of The Week

Surely Not Mayorkun’s Mama But Wizkid’s Medicine. The Real starboy not the Canadian impersonator has repeatedly shown us that he is not yet done doing good music . Wizkid’s drops something Nigerian and tries to blend with the Kriztbeatz and Mr Eazi driven Tempo and he did perfectly well even if it sounds like a freestyle. Medicine was produced and backed up by Masterkraft. Seems Masterkraft’s way tagging his signature is by Calling His name at the end and that of the artiste. Go check out that sound.

Flop Song Of The Week

Good songs were released this week besides am not in the mood to tell someone who had put in a lot of work but unfortunately came out with a poor Sound that he/she did a bad job. They need motivation to do what they love once in a while even if it’s not their calling.

This week’s review came late and so i had to shorten what i had to say. Keep tab on this space for next week’s edition!
Support Good Music!, Support Good artistes! Have a great week!
