I send this story with so much pain in my heart and hatred for the man that has brought this upon me and also for someone out there to learn something from it.

My childhood friend and best friend will be buried in two weeks.
Love was meant to be a beautiful thing but as far as I am concerned, a sister has gone because of it.

I remember in our secondary school days we talked about not condoning any wife beater or any man who would not value us. While in the university, we stood up against any guy that harassed any of our close friends.

However, in our third year, my friend fell deeply in love with a guy who turned out to be a woman beater. She made all manner of excuses for him and just would not leave him despite all my pleas. What worsened the whole situation was when he proposed to her and she decided that we see a prophet to confirm if that was God’s will for her.

Sadly enough, the prophet told her that, he was specially kept for her by God and that revelation from the prophet sealed it. Nothing was going to change her mind.

They got married and my darling friend continued to put up with her husband like he was the sweetest man on earth. They acted like the perfect couple outside, and everyone loved him because he was so cheerful, yet he was punching his wife at home and she in turn became used to his beatings.

I could not understand why she didn’t just leave. Despite all my pleas, and threats to report to the police and anyone who cared to listen, her response was always “it will be your word against mine!”

Her mum had been a victim of domestic violence, so her parents’ marriage crashed and she and her siblings were left in the care of their grandmother. It was a terrible experience for her while growing up and she had vowed that her children will not go through what she went through and so she stayed.
She was a hardworking and kind hearted lady but all that has amounted to nothing.

Chai! I failed her o. I knew what was going on, I should have done better. All the bruises, the time we spent in the hospital, the miscarriages, and all the lies I had to tell just to please her. But what was I to do when she warned me?

Her husband tells everyone, that she slipped and fell while she was having her bath, but the nanny who called me when the incident happened narrated that her husband was punching her and she ran in to the bathroom, slipped and hit her head. What a painful way to end a life!

Seven years of endurance in that marriage, three children left with no mother. They keep asking of their mummy. Children who watched their mother get beaten! I am angry. Why do you say you love someone and still treat the person like an animal?
