The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State, Prof. Francisca Bassey, has warned lecturers and Heads of Departments against delaying the submission and uploading of students’ examination results.
According to the university, part of the Vice Chancellor’s ongoing engagement with academic leaders to discuss institutional responsibilities, challenges and strategies for improving academic administration.
The engagement was part of the Vice Chancellor’s efforts to strengthen communication, accountability and collaboration between the university management and academic leaders.
Bassey gave the warning yesterday, during an interactive meeting with Heads of Departments held at the Conference Room of her office.
The VC commended the HODs for their hard work and dedication, urging them to remain committed to their responsibilities and contribute to the transformation of the institution.
She, however, directed them to ensure the prompt submission and uploading of students’ results, warning that the salaries of lecturers and HODs who delayed the process would be withheld.
Bassey also charged the academic leaders to uphold discipline in their various departments and ensure that staff members avoided unethical practices, including examination malpractice.
She urged the HODs to remain focused and committed to building a stronger institution, saying that collective commitment was necessary to change the narrative of UNICROSS.
“There is nothing impossible to him that believeth. When you focus your eyes on what you want to achieve, you can achieve it despite the obstacles. If we have that mindset we can achieve the best for UNICROSS,” she said.
The Vice Chancellor further encouraged staff to prioritise their duties and the interests of students and Cross River State, assuring them that hard work and dedication would be rewarded.
“God rewards hard work. If you do well, you will be called for positions you did not lobby for. If you have the interest of these children and Cross River State at heart, God will call you to reward you. Just do your work. The blessings will come,” she said.
Bassey announced that the university would expand opportunities for staff training and exchange programmes, urging members of staff to take advantage of such opportunities while also pursuing personal development.
“We are going to have a lot of training. There will be more exchange programmes. Those that are working will benefit from the training and exchange programmes. But do personal training and improve on yourselves,” she added.
On infrastructure, the VC assured the HODs that attention would be given to bad roads within some parts of the university’s campuses.
She stressed the importance of UNICROSS to the development of Cross River State and the nation, noting that the institution was responsible for producing manpower needed for development.
“We desire to have attention because we train the manpower of the state and nation. Go back and motivate your staff,” Bassey said.
The Vice Chancellor also emphasised the need for staff members to follow due process and adhere to the university’s organogram when addressing grievances.
Assuring the HODs of management’s commitment to maintaining a harmonious working environment, she said, “We are a family.”
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Stella Maris-Okey, reminded the HODs of their responsibilities and urged them to ensure the timely uploading of students’ results.
