The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old security guard, Ndifreke Godwin, over the alleged sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Calabar.
The police said the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the girl while she was at his residence.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Eitokpah Sunday, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday
According to the statement, the incident occurred along Tinapa Road, Calabar, after the suspect allegedly lured the minor to his residence on the pretext of giving her money.
The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of the police on August 29, 2026, by the victim’s mother, following which the suspect was arrested.
The command said the victim had been issued a medical form for necessary medical examination and treatment.
The case, according to the police, had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The statement added that the suspect would be accorded due process, while appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The command assured members of the public of its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons, while urging residents to promptly report suspicious or criminal activities to the police.
