The Pioneer Director General of the Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority, Chief Dr. Kingsley Ita Asanye Ikpeme, has called on stakeholders across Cross River State to work collectively to ensure the success of Governor Bassey Otu’s “People’s First” agenda.
Ikpeme made the call on Friday during the People’s First Dinner and Awards Ceremony held at The Dome in Calabar Municipality. The event, organised by PET Media and Event Ventures, was themed, “Recognizing Impact Makers of Governor Otu’s People’s First Mantra.”
Speaking during his goodwill address after receiving an award, Ikpeme stressed the need for stronger representation of Cross River State at the federal level.
He said the state had continued to suffer setbacks on critical issues, including the oil wells dispute and other matters requiring federal attention and justice.
According to him, “There is an urgent need for effective representation of Cross River State at the federal level. Our state must no longer be shortchanged on issues such as the oil wells dispute and other matters that deserve justice and federal attention.”
He added that the responsibility of developing the state should not rest solely on the government, noting that all stakeholders must support the administration to achieve meaningful progress.
“All hands must be on deck to support Governor Bassey Otu. Governance must not only be done; it must be seen to work for the common man. The People’s First mantra must translate into visible projects, opportunities and improved livelihoods across the 18 local government areas,” he said.
Ikpeme also commended the organisers of the event for creating a platform to discuss issues affecting the state and celebrate individuals making meaningful contributions to its development.
He specifically praised the Chief Executive Officer of PET Media and Event Ventures, Comrade Eje Peter, for successfully organising the event.
He said the initiative had provided an opportunity for stakeholders to brainstorm on issues concerning Cross River State while showcasing the achievements of the present administration.
The event attracted prominent personalities, including the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ayuk.
Also in attendance were members of the Cross River State Executive Council, political leaders, local government chairmen, captains of industry, traditional rulers and other stakeholders.
The APC candidate for the Odukpani/Calabar Federal Constituency, High Chief Hon. Effefiong Nta Eke, PhD, delivered remarks on the blueprint of the Otu administration.
Other speakers included the Obol Opon of Ugep and Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Ijom, the Commissioner for Power, Engr. Eka Williams, and other distinguished personalities.
The People’s First Dinner and Awards Ceremony recognised individuals for their contributions toward advancing Governor Otu’s People First agenda and promoting the development of Cross River State.
